Dear Residents of Lake Carmi,
This letter is intended to inform you of an upcoming project in the Lake Carmi watershed which will begin during the spring of 2021:
The Northwest Regional Planning Commission (NRPC) has been awarded funding through the Lake Champlain Basin Program to complete a road erosion inventory on private and State Park roads and driveways in the Lake Carmi watershed in partnership with Friends of Northern Lake Champlain and the Franklin County Natural Resources Conservation District. The goal of this work is to identify high priority areas to direct funding to install Best Management Practices (BMPs) which will reduce the amount of sediment and phosphorus flowing into Lake Carmi and help improve the lake water quality.
There will be 3 phases to this project:
Road erosion inventory: NRPC staff will be walking private roads and driveways in the Lake Carmi Watershed and collecting data to assess the condition. This may include taking photos of the area. Spring 2021
Workshops: An online workshop will be available for residents, landowners and homeowners to learn more about BMPs you can use to reduce erosion on your private road and/or driveway. Summer 2021
Construction: A mini-grant program will be available to landowners to fund the installation of BMPs in high priority areas. Only private roads or driveways that have an inventory will be eligible for the mini-grant program. Summer 2021-2022
If you have any questions or concerns about the Road Erosion Inventory, you may leave a message at 802-524-5958 and an NRPC staff member will get back to you.
We thank you for your cooperation and look forward to working with you to make improvements to the private and State Park roads and driveways in the Lake Carmi watershed.
Kind regards,
Linda Blasch
Regional Planner
